Navigation of The Middle Level
If you telephone the Middle Level Commissioners and ask for information about navigating their waters, you will be sent an A5 booklet of guidance notes and may additionally receive a number of tourist leaflets for the area.
The first three pages cover General Information.
Pages Four and Five show a map. All maps have been placed together under the Maps link where there are some notes on the best ways to print them.
Pages Six to Nine are detailed notes on the Recommended Route for passing between the Rivers Nene and Great Ouse.
The final page is a reprint of a note from the Environment Agency providing information about the Forty Foot Navigation and the timetable for passage through Welches Dam and Horseway locks.
You are urged to have all the information above with you when using the Middle Level waterways, so do print it out now if you do not have Internet access when aboard your boat.
As with any waterway, occassionally there needs to be maintenance done, which can involve the waterway being temporarily closed. Please also look at the News page for any recent information.
