General

Maximum Dimensions N97#6p24 N2k#6p24 N03#6p26
A BW notice below Lock 48 warns that all subsequent (ie 20 to 48) locks are 7ft wide at the lower water line. Since they are even narrower below the water line, boats with BCN-style hulls, and hence wide base plates, may jam. Although most boats will be able to pass, a significant minority (including some hire and BW boats) fail. There are no plans to widen these locks, so the upper reaches will be out of bounds to a fair number of boats.
Keys N97#6p27 N2k#6p27
A BW Sanitary key is required on all locks to Shireoaks.
Picture N03#6p44
The picture captioned "West Stockwith" is, in fact, of Tapton Lock Visitor Centre, next to Lock 1.

West Stockwith N97#6p26 N2K#6p26 N03#6p26
There are no longer any shops at all in the village.

The Waterfront Inn welcomes dogs.

Lock 64 N97#6p27 N2k#6p27 N03#6p43
The Packet Inn, Misterton, was demolished in September 2003.
Lock 63 N97#6p27 N2k#6p27
It's very shallow between Misterton Top Lock and Lock 61, Gringley Lock.
Lock 61 N97#6p26 N2k#6p26 N03#6p42
The lock is named Gringley Lock.
Drakeholes Tunnel N97#6p28 N2k#6p28
There are 24 Hour BW Moorings south of the tunnel.
Drakeholes Tunnel N97#6p29 N2k#6p29
The Griff Inn (1997 Edition) is now The White Swan (2000 Edition) and in spite of the identical description in both editions is now reported as a bit less up market, though still good and with a wide range of guest real ales.
Bridge 67 N97#6p28 N2k#6p28
Toilet, Water Point, Sanitary and Refuse Stations are on the towpath side just south of Bridge 67 not on the off-side north of the bridge as marked.
Bridge 66 N97#6p28#6p31 N2k#6p28#6p31
There are BW 24hr Moorings at Hayton village, north of the bridge with a winding hole to their north. (A mooring symbol appears only on p31 of the 2000 edition. The bridge is not specifically shown on p31 of the 1997 edition but is indicated by the text "Townend Bridge".)
Bridge 62 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31
The Gate is now a Mansfield Brewery pub.

Retford

Bridge 59 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31
The Hop Pole Inn was serving only John Smith's real ale in mid 2001.  (A local has reported that they change management more often than he changes his socks, so maybe the beers available change as rapidly).
Bridge 57 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31
The Packet Inn has visitor moorings.
Lock 59 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31 N03#6p39
The Rum Runner, close to the Town Lock, hosts an in-house brewery (Broadstone), and also has an excellent selection of other local real ales, including a wonderful real mild. Traditionalists perhaps won't like the polished wooden floorboards (no carpets), pastel-painted walls and sofas, but there is a selection of newspapers (broadsheets too!) and the décor doesn't take itself too seriously - one picture frame even has an A3 photocopy of "The Real Ale Twats" from Viz. The landlord is said to offer tours of the brewery for £10, which includes a buffet and lots of beer to drink.
Lock 58 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31
There is an Asda next to the Aqueduct north of Lock 58.  Mooring on the Armco is fine!
Bridge 55 N97#6p31 N2k#6p31
The Market Hotel, West Carr Road, is in the Good Beer Guide. (From the bridge go west. Double back, left, into Babworth Road then forward to West Carr Road. The Hotel is near the station.)
Lock 55 N97#6p30 N2k#6p30
The services at Forest Locks include a toilet and shower.
Bridge 52 N97#6p30
The page link to p30 should read p33.
Bridge 51 N97#6p33 N2k#6p33
In summer there is normally extensive blanket weed from here to Lock 52, Kilton Lock.
Ranby N97#6p33 N2k#6p33 N03#6p37
There are BW 24 hour moorings on the off-side just north of the Chequers Pub (Marked in the 2003 edition.). Surrounded by trees, they are particularly beautiful, at apple blossom time.
Bridge 45B N97#6p32 N2k#6p32 N03#6p36
This is the unnumbered bridge that leads to Rayton Farm, north of the canal.

Worksop

Worksop N97#6p32 N2k#6p32
The main text about the restoration of the canal should now indicate that navigation is open to the east portal of Norwood Tunnel.
Worksop Town Bridge N97#6p35 N2k#6p35
The sanitary station east of the bridge, marked differently in each edition, and not numbered in any, was closed with the demise of the BW yard.  A sewage disposal point does remain, however.
Lock 49 N97#6p32 N2k#6p32 N03#6p36
Morse Lock has a new footbridge, numbered 41C, at its tail.
Lock 48 N97#6p35
The Lock-Keeper, between Lock 48 and 47, is a pub on the towpath side.  Banks, Pedigree.  Good food all day.
Lock 48 N97#6p35 N2k#6p35 N03#6p33
A BW notice below Lock 48 warns that all subsequent (ie 20 to 48) locks are 7ft wide at the lower water line. Since they are even narrower below the water line, boats with BCN-style hulls, and hence wide base plates, may jam. Although most boats will be able to pass, a significant minority (including some hire and BW boats) fail. There are no plans to widen these locks, so the upper reaches will be out of bounds to a fair number of boats.
Shireoaks Marina N97#6p35 N2k#6p35 N2k#6p33
The Marina has no proper description. Facilities include excellent, secure, visitor moorings with electricity.
Shireoaks Bridge N97#6p35 N2k#6p35
The Hewitt Arms, ½ south west of canal, does not serve meals. The beers change regularly. The 2003 edition, wisely, does not attempt to name any!

The pub, The Station, has closed.

Boundary Lock N97#6p35 N2k#6p35 N03#6p33
A BW key is needed for this lock, named "New Lock" in the 1997 and 2000 editions.
Turnerwood N97#6p35 N2k#6p35 N03#6p33
There are 2 hour moorings near the winding hole.
Lock 20 N97#6p35 N2k#6p35
An anti-vandal key is needed for the lock.
Kiveton Bridge N2k#6p34 N03#6p32
The winding hole shown east of the bridge has barriers and a sign to say that it's not a winding hole.
Norwood Tunnel N97#6p35 N2k#6p35
The winding hole shown near the tunnel mouth is approximately 200yds further east than shown. There are visitor moorings just east of the winding hole with room for two boats but only bollards for one.

Head of Navigation

Beyond the head of navigation, further sections of the canal have been restored.

Staveley

Bridge 7 N03#6p28
The unnamed lock shown immediately west of Billy Lane Bridge, between Locks 3 and 4, does not exist!  Delete the lock symbol!

Chesterfield

Lock 1 N03#6p28
The picture on p44, captioned "West Stockwith", is in fact of Tapton Lock Visitor Centre, next to the lock.
