Ellesmere

Ellesmere N97#4p26 N2k#4p26
Artlices posted to news:uk.rec.waterways suggested that one should "Buy some meat pies from Sid the butcher in Ellesmere".  Further responses from others added "and everything else from the bakers and deli next door".  However, there remains some confusion about whether "Sid's" is the Butcher that the others had in mind.  Other comments included: "The deli is called Vermeulen's.  It's unmissable." and "Their spiced apple cake. Divine.! Droooool..."

Directions to the "deli" were provided as:
Walk into town from the end of the Ellesmere arm.  Turn right at the end and left at the next junction (app 100 yards).  The butchers and the bakers/deli are on the right-hand side app 100 yards down.

The addresses were given as:

Whixall Moss Junction

Bridge 1 N97#4p25 N2k#4p25
Allmans Bridge, is a Grade II listed bridge.  It is one of the very few remaining bridges opened by pulling a chain.  The original bridge was beautifully balanced and despite weighing several tons could be operated easily.  British Waterways have rebuilt the bridge widening the platform.  It is now very unbalanced and needs considerable strength to open and close.  It can be very dangerous so do not allow children to operate.  The bridge must be left down as it is the only access to the cottage beside the canal.
Bridge 2 N97#4p25 N2k#4p25
A windlass is needed to raise Starks Lift Bridge.
