Dimensions N97#6p74 N2k#6p74
Dimensions in the blue panel of the 2000 editions say maximum lengths are:
River Ouse (Naburn to York): 140ft
River Ouse (York to Swale Nab): 57ft
River Ure 57ft
Rippon Canal 57ft
However an update to the 1997 edition reported that a 60ft craft managed to descend Rhodesfield Lock (Ripon Canal) and Westwick Lock (R Ure) with fenders lifted.
Moorings N97#6p74 N2k#6p74
Narrowboaters may find mooring between York and Ripon impossible, other than at the locks or the pub at Newton-on-Ouse.  All other pubs have no specific moorings. Moorings can get very busy at weekends in the summer.

River Ouse

Trent Falls

River Humber (Not covered)

River Trent

Note: There is no coverage, in Nicholson, of the Ouse between Trent Falls N97#6p157 N2k#6p157 and Goole N97#6p95 N2k#6p95. Those cruising these waters need to take note of the navigation notes on the pages indicated.

No updates for reaches downstream from Barmby on the Marsh.

Barmby on the Marsh

At the lock there are Sewage Disposal and Refuse Disposal Points, including pump-out facilities.

York

Nunthorpe N97#6p85 N2k#6p85
York Motor Yacht Club is immediately to the south of an unmarked footbridge. [More details of location would be welcome! Ed.]

Blue Bridge

River Foss

Nether Poppleton N97#6p83
The Fox Inn at Nether Poppleton no longer exists.
Newton-on-Ouse N97#6p80
The Blacksmiths Arms:  Meals now available lunchtimes and evenings.  Marston's real ale too!
Linton Lock N97#6p81 N2k#6p81
Navigational Note:  Beware of a large sand bar across the river below Linton Lock.  This extends for approx 80% of the width of the river from the south bank.  Keep to within 10 feet of north bank when rounding bend and approaching from below lock.

Linton Lock Bar Restaurant:  (Tel: 01347 848486)  In the lock house.  Open daily from 7:00pm, April to October.  Real ales and dining room.  Toilets and showers.

River Ure

Ouse Gill Beck

Aldwark Toll Bridge N97#6p80 N2k#6p80
The footbridge shown in the 2000 edition to be 500 yds above the bridge is in fact roughly 3/4 mile upstream, adjacent to the church.  The landing stage at the foot of the bridge is not a mooring but a rowing club stage.

The moorings for the Bay Horse are about 300yds upstream from the footbridge and are partially concealed by bushes.  The moorings here can no longer be described as "good" as they need some maintenance as are a trifle fragile for use by narrowboats and there is only room for one vessel.  It maybe, however, well worthwhile as the Bay Horse sells real ale, good food as described in the guide and the locals are very friendly.

Milby Lock Cut N97#6p78 N2k#6p78
There are reasonable moorings in Milby Lock cut opposite the sanitary station.

BW cards are available from Canal Garage.

Ripon Canal

Oxclose Lock

Bell Furrows Lock N97#6p76
A BW sanitary key is required to operate this lock.

Ripon Racecourse Marina is just south of the lock.

Rhodesfield Lock N97#6p76
There are Water, Sewage Disposal, including Pump-out, and Refuse Disposal Points above the lock.
Rhodesfield Lock N97#6p76 N2k#6p76
A BW sanitary key is required to operate this lock.

There are 48 hour moorings associated with the facilities above Rhodesfield Lock.

Ripon By-Pass Bridge N97#6p76
There is a new footbridge east of the bridge and a winding hole east of this.
Ripon N97#6p76 N2k#6p76
There is no mooring in Ripon Basin itself but there are BW 48 hour visitor moorings just outside.

There is a laundrette in North Street just off Market Square and a branch of Morrisons in Market Square.
