- Severn Locks
- Gloucester Lock is the only Severn Lock without the very handy roping cables recessed into the lock walls. (The Gloucester - Sharpness Canal and River Severn Users Forum is working on it!)
Gloucester Lock
Gloucester and Sharpness Canal
- Gloucester Quay N97#2p69 N2k#2p69 N03#2p75
-
When arriving at the quay from the north, as the sign suggests, you should secure your stern rope first when mooring. However, if the recommended phone call or radio communication has been made at Upper Parting then the lock will normally be ready and waiting.
If a wait is called for boaters should not to use the emergency escape ladders to secure ropes. Chains are now fitted the entire length of the quay.
- Upper Parting N97#2p69 N2k#2p69 N03#2p75
- Boaters are strongly advised to make a phone call or radio transmission to Gloucester Lock when at The Parting. You will be informed of any large craft that might be encountered in the channel. It is somewhat narrower than the main river channel.
- Apperley N97#2p73 N2k#2p73
- The moorings at the Coal House Inn are small but sturdy.
- Chaceley Stock N97#2p73 N2k#2p73
- The moorings are good at Yew Tree Inn.
- Lower Lode Hotel N97#2p75 N2k#2p75 N03#2p81
- Water is available at the moorings by the hotel, 1km down river from Upper Lode Lock.
- Upper Lode Lock N97#2p75 N2k#2p75 N03#2p81
-
There is no water point at the lock.
There is reassurance given to Gloucester bound travellers by the Distance and Information signs to be seen at strategic points between the lock and Gloucester Lock.
Tewkesbury
River Avon
- Tewkesbury N97#2p10
- The Page link to p73 should read p75.
- Upton upon Severn N97#2p75 N2k#2p75
- There are no water points on the west bank at Upton. Water and a sewage disposal point are on a pontoon just north of the marina entrance on the east bank.
Worcester
Worcester and Birmingham Canal
- Worcester N97#2p81 N2k#2p81 N03#2p87
-
There is overnight mooring available in the short arm on east bank immediately above Diglis Lock (on single pontoon - marked in the 2003 edition), but not by the Dock, as indicated in all editions.
There is a Water Point and Sanitary Station pontoon on the river just south of junction with the Worcester and Birmingham Canal (marked in the 2003 edition). However, the water pressure has been reported as very low there. A new, and good, water point may be found further up river at Worcester Railway Bridge (at the moorings marked in the 2003 edition.
There are Council moorings on east bank of the river by the southern end of Race Course (Fee £2.50 per night in 1999 - marked in the 2003 edition).
- Bevere Lock N97#2p85 N2k#2p85
- The Camp House Inn has room for one narrowboat at its moorings. It's been reported, "An excellent overnight stop. The food is very good and the prices are ridiculously low. The pub is renowned locally for its scrumpy".
Hawford Lock
Droitwich Barge Canal (No coverage)
- Holt Castle N97#2p84
- The page link to p86 should be to p87.
- Holt Castle N97#2p87
- The page link to p85 should be to p84.
- Holt Fleet N97#2p87 N2k#2p87
- There are limited overnight mooring (pontoon) on north bank between Holt Fleet Bridge and Holt Lock but there is no water point here.
Stourport-on-Severn
- Stourport-on-Severn N97#2p88 N2k#2p88 N03#2p94
- The main text, line 15, says that the "little River Salwarpe" joins the Severn at Stourport. This seems unlikely, since (a) the River Salwarpe is not shown on the map (p89- p95 in the 2003 edition), (b) it is shown on the map on p85 (p91 in the 2003 edition) and (c) the text on p84, line 3, (p90 in the 2003 edition) says that the little River Salwarpe joins the Severn with the Droitwich Barge Canal.
- Stourport-on-Severn N97#2p89 N2k#2p89
- Weatherspoons has opened a pub at the north end of the bridge over the Severn.
